WHAT’S ON

Commissioned by Croydonites and presented in association with Talawa Theatre Company, Blessed, Tryna Shake This Curse is a Theatrical Mixtape of late 90s early 00’s nostalgia created by Simon Manyonda (Rye Lane). Garage Music, Dawson’s Creek and Croydon NightLife soundtrack a coming of age tale following a young man’s yearning to transcend his life and become an Actor.

Soundtracked by music and a score created and composed by Simon Manyonda with additional production by Owain Kelly (NO CEREMONY///), BLESSED experiments with the 90s transportation of Garage Music on mixtapes and puts it on stage to tell a blast from the past story that took place outside The Black Sheep.

This work appeared in CroydonBites in 2022, returned in 2023 as a scratch performance and this is a further development of Blessed, Tryna Shake This Curse, supported by Croydonites.
